Washington, DC, July 16 - The American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP), Americans for Peace Now (APN), and the Middle East Institute (MEI) held a briefing today at the Rayburn House Office Building entitled “Parallel Policies: Advocating Peace in the Middle East for the Next Generation”.
The briefing featured Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin, President of the Middle East Institute, Dr. Ziad Asali, President of the American Task Force on Palestine, and Ori Nir spokesman for Americans for Peace Now. They discussed the realities of, challenges to, and possibilities for advocating Middle East peace from a Washington perspective and specifically addressed their organization’s complimentary approaches to achieving political and educational goals. Afterwards, the fifty-plus interns asked the panelists questions on current events, policy, and their opinions of the future of Israel and Palestine.
The brief was the second in a series of Middle East focused events organized by interns of the three organizations for other Washington interns. ATFP president Dr. Ziad Asali said, “It was heartening to hear such informed questions coming from our next generation of leaders.”
