A: There were two major recent PLO UN initiatives.

The first, in 2011, was a PLO request to the Security Council for full UN membership, which failed. The ATFP Board of Directors debated the matter on three occasions and then voted 13-6 in favor of taking no position on the initiative. The organization and its staff never opposed, nor did it support, this initiative.

The second PLO UN initiative was in 2012 for upgraded status as a nonmember observer state in the UN General Assembly, which succeeded. It was based on an overwhelming international consensus, and the issue was never raised within ATFP. The Task Force worked to mitigate the aid cuts that followed the 2012 UN initiative.
