JERUSALEM, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israeli opposition leader Tsipi Livni said Monday that it is "obvious now that there is a common interest in ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," in reference to dozens of U.S. State Department cables dealing with assessments of diplomatic maneuvers in the areas released by WikiLeaks overnight.
The documents are part of what is being described as the largest leak of official documents in history.
Speaking with German Federal Republic President Christian Wulff, here on a four-day visit, Livni said, "Allies need to conduct between themselves a dialogue that allows for an open discussion on strategic issues," Livni said, according to The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
"The international community needs to find a system that will allow states to establish this discourse, even if there are no dramatic surprises within the documents that were released," Livni said.
Wulff told his hosts that he hoped to "encourage" the peace process with the Palestinians.
"In 2008, we initiated the peace process in order to change the face of the situation and in 2010 I say again - a peace agreement is possible and it needs to be done," Livni said.
Wulff met with Israeli President Shimon Peres on Saturday, and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday in Jerusalem, where he placed wreaths at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. He is to visit Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah before returning to Germany on Tuesday.
