Palestinian kids play risky game with Israel police
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from Alertnet by Jihan Abdalla - December 15, 2010 - 1:00am At the volatile heart of a volatile region, Palestinian children play a dangerous game. In the flashpoint East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Silwan, small groups of boys hang around by the roadside, suddenly darting into the street to hurl rocks at passing Israeli cars, especially vehicles belonging to local Jewish settlers. Seemingly heedless of the risk they pose their targets and themselves, the youngsters also goad local Israeli security forces determined to keep order. |

Arabs against peace talks without clear borders
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from The Statesman by Sarah El Deeb - December 15, 2010 - 1:00am The Palestinians have asked European countries to recognize an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip — a new step in the campaign to pursue statehood outside the framework of a peace deal with Israel. Peace talks with Israel have been deadlocked since September, leaving Palestinians to start exploring alternative ways forward. The campaign by President Mahmoud Abbas and his West Bank government aims to pressure Israel, though it will likely change nothing on the ground as long as Israel remains opposed. |

It is understandable that he is frustrated and groping for alternatives to his current failed policy, but what he proposes is simply silly and regrettable. |

Peeking into the abyss
ATFP World Press Roundup Article from Bitterlemons by Ghassan Khatib - (Blog) December 6, 2010 - 1:00am There have been contradicting reports about the outcome of ongoing American efforts to resume the peace process, which was launched by the administration in Washington at the beginning of last September and then was undermined by the resumption of full-scale Israeli settlement activities. Since then, two parallel sets of political activities have been underway. First are American contacts with Israel to try to bring about another settlement freeze that might allow talks to continue between Israel and Palestinians. |
