A Palestinian farmer died Monday hours after he was shot in the northern Gaza Strip. Palestinian medical officials accused Israeli soldiers of killing the farmer, Mustafa Abu Jarad, 21, but a military spokeswoman denied any Israeli involvement. Since November, when a cease-fire between Hamas, the militant group that runs Gaza, and Israel was brokered by Egypt, Israeli troops have killed three Palestinians near the restricted border area. Also on Monday, rescue workers recovered the body of a Palestinian who had been trapped in a smuggling tunnel under Gaza’s border with Egypt. The man, Ali al-Qadi, was in the tunnel with two other people on Saturday when it collapsed after a period of heavy rain.
