JERUSALEM, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday reached an agreement with the nationalist coalition partner Habayit Hayehudi ("The Jewish Home") to delay the voting on a bill to legalize Jewish homes built on private Palestinian lands.

At the same time, Netanyahu instructed Defense Minister Ehud Barak to halt preparations for demolishing 30 homes in the settlement of Bet El's Ulpana neighborhood, after the Supreme Court ordered the state to raze them by July 1, the Haaretz daily reported.

Earlier this month, the court rejected a government appeal to freeze the demolitions, on the grounds that the structures were built on a private Palestinian land.

Following the decision, however, several right-wing lawmakers and ministers pressured Netanyahu to find a solution that would keep the illegal homes standing, and promoted the controversial bill meant to bypass the ruling.

Netanyahu earlier this month held a special cabinet meeting with government members to debate on the bill, but in the meanwhile decided to search for other solutions that would prevent the destruction.

However, Ya'akov Katz, leader of the ultra-right opposition party Haichud Haleumi ("National Union") on Wednesday said he plans to advance a similar bill, in hopes that other lawmakers will join him in breaking Netanyahu's instruction for coalition discipline.

Katz's bill proposes retroactively approving Jewish homes built on private Palestinian lands if the landowner does not stake a claim to the property for four years.

The defense minister said he is "unequivocally opposed" to the outpost bill.

"It's a bill that hurts the State of Israel, the government and the (West Bank) settlement community, and will serve as an effective weapon at the hands of Israel's foes in the international arena and the international legal systems," Barak said in a statement sent to Xinhua.

He added that "In an advanced country, it isn't possible to pass a law that would cancel a conclusive and concrete ruling by the High Court of Justice."
