RAMALLAH, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Salam Fayyad, premier of the Palestinian caretaker government in the West Bank, has begun initial contacts to reshuffle his cabinet in a bid to treat an internal deficiency, an official source said Friday.
The source in Fayyad's government, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that Fayyad has finally agreed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to reshuffle the government, without setting up a specific date.
According to the source, the reshuffle aims at treating internal flaw and deficiency in the structure of the government and enabling it to face the challenges as the implementation of reconciliation has been delayed.
"The outlines of this reshuffle will be based on fulfilling the spaces in some portfolios, while most of the current ministers will remain in their posts," said the source, adding that " independent figures are the nominees for the reshuffle."
However, the source added that President Abbas is not in a hurry to finalize the reshuffle, as he is more engaged in dealing with the stalled peace talks with Israel.
Abbas announced Thursday night on a Palestinian TV Show that Fayyad's government was going to be reshuffled soon, adding that " this issue can be postponed if internal Palestinian reconciliation is achieved."
"Reshuffle will be like renovating the current government because this would include the nomination of new ministers to fulfill empty portfolios and sacking some ministers until a national unity government is formed," said Abbas.
