Jordanian foreign minister said Tuesday the United States plays a major role in pushing the peacemaking efforts forward and pressuring Israel to stop unilateral measures to resume the peace talks with the Palestinians, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
At a meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh said the regional developments should not divert the attention away from the Israeli-Palestinian issue, which is the core issue in the region.
Judeh underlined the necessity to relaunch direct talks between the Palestinians and Israel to address the final status issues including the borders, water, security and refugees.
The Middle East and the entire world will not witness stability and security without finding a lasting solution to the Israeli- Palestinian issue, the minister said.
The U.S. official, who stressed on the strategic relations between the two countries, voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts to attain peace and security in the Middle East.
He also emphasized the U.S. support to Jordan's efforts to revive direct talks to find a just solution to the Palestinian issue.
