Israeli forces fired on an area east of Al-Bureij camp in central Gaza Thursday evening, injuring four, including a woman and two children, local sources said.

Three artillery shells were fired into farm lands east of the refugee camp, eyewitnesses told Ma'an.

The injured were taken to Al-Aqsa hospital in the central Gaza region of Al-Wusta, but their injuries were not critical, the sources said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said, "Early yesterday evening an IDF force identified a squad of terrorists who were identified planting an explosive device near the security fence in the central Gaza Strip. The force fired towards the squad, and did not identify a hit.

"Uninvolved civilians have apparently been injured. The IDF regrets that terrorists choose to operate from within civilian populations."

Areas adjacent to the border between the Strip and Israel see regular military activity by the Israeli army, who unilaterally impose a 'no-go' zone up to 1.5 kilometers from the fence, and frequently fire on the area.
