Jordan's foreign minister said Wednesday that demographic and geographic changes in the Palestinian territories resulting from Israeli settlement activities have threatened the Middle East peace process, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
During his meeting with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Robert Serry, Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said the unilateral Israeli measures in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are illegal.
These measures have destroyed the two-state solution as they divide the Palestinian territories and make them geographically unconnected, said Judeh.
"Settlement activities should be completely stopped in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as all unilateral Israeli measures," said the minister.
Judeh, who called for intensified international efforts to pressure Israel to make progress to realize the two-state solution, said current regional developments should not deviate attention away from the Palestinian issue.
Stressing UN's keenness to continue coordination with Jordan, Serry said the UN appreciates Jordan's efforts to attain the Middle East peace.
The two sides also underlined the need for re-launching serious and effective peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis to address all final status issues towards the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
