A young Gaza man was injured by Israeli fire east of Beit Hanoun on Tuesday, reportedly while he was gathering cement aggregates from the border area.

Medical services coordinator for the de facto government Adham Abu Salmiyeh identified the man as 22-year-old Bilal Ibrahim Obeid, saying he was hit in the shoulder and was moderately injured.

Witnesses said Obeid was standing with a group of men collecting small particles of cement for use in construction and sale to the cement recycling plant in Gaza City.

Israeli military officials were not immediately available for comment.

On Saturday, three Gaza workers collecting stone aggregates were injured.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said at the time that soldiers fired at a group of men after patrols "identified a group approaching the security fence," classified by Israeli officials as a "combat zone," which includes 6.25 percent of Gaza land and an estimated 20 percent of arable lands.

She said soldiers fired warning shots into the air in an attempt to drive away the men from the area, then fired toward their lower bodies, at which point she said two hits were identified.
