A Palestinian woman was killed and five other were injured Tuesday night by Israeli artillery fire in the residential area of Juhor Addik east of Gaza City, medics said.
Chief of ambulance and emergency services Muawiya Hassanien told Ma'an that the injuries were serious and all were evacuated to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital for treatment. Ni'ma Abu Sa'id, 38, was pronounced dead upon arrival, he said.
Witnesses said Israeli forces entered the neighborhood and fired artillery shells toward civilian homes, which is close to the northern Karni crossing with Israel.
An Israeli military spokesman said he was unfamiliar with the report, but added that he would investigate.
Separately, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military wing affiliated to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said Tuesday that its combatants clashed with invading forces in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, near the border.
The army representative said he was not familiar with that report.
Earlier Tuesday evening, two Palestinians were injured by Israeli artillery fire east of Gaza's Al-Bureij refugee camp.
According to the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahranoth, quoting a source, the fire followed the launching of mortar shells in the area.
The identity of those injured and the severity of their wounds remains unknown.
In response to a Ma'an inquiry, the Israeli military spokesman said Israeli forces deployed near the border identified "suspicious" individuals in close proximity to the no-go area. The force identified a direct hit.
The spokesman added that the area is used to plant explosives and that "Hamas is solely responsible for the terror emanating from the Gaza Strip."
