Following the EU announcement that officials were preparing a proposal to open the entire union's market to Palestinian goods, officials from the Young Leaders Organization in Ramallah said a feasibility study was underway.
The research will examine a series of export opportunities to EU nations, and according to a statement by the group, aims "to identify opportunities and constraints that prevent the exploitation of the designated ad hoc quota for Palestinian businesses who would like to export their products to Europe."
The study will look at the realities behind EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht's announcement on 11 June, that the coming months will see the implementation of "duty-free quota-free access for Palestinian exports to the EU."
As young Palestinian economists and entrepreneurs carry out the study, focus will be paid to local organizations "with the aim of examining previous experiences," and to ultimately "identify obstacles as well as businesses likely to benefit from such export opportunities."
The study will be presented to business owners and potential beneficiaries in the form of workshops, spokesman for the group Zaher Bassioni wrote, and will also provide "the technical information they need in order to start the exportation of their products to the European Union Countries."
