A conference will be held to reconcile factions on a united plan to support Jerusalem and counter Israel’s position toward the Palestinian people and holy places, PLO secretary-general Yasser Abed Rabbo said Tuesday.
Abed Rabbo hinted that the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah may officially take its case to the UN Security Council seeking support for its efforts against what he termed provocative Israeli actions in Jerusalem.
“Several options are being considered to recruit more support toward ending Israeli aggression,” Abed Rabbo said. The PLO official accused Israel of foiling international, Arab, and Palestinian efforts to start a real peace process based on halting settlement construction, endorsement of the obvious bases for negotiations, ending the occupation, and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He added, “Israel is conducting unprecedented provocative actions, demonstrating that the Judiazation of Jerusalem has become an official policy which includes geography, history, and holy sites.” Abed Rabbo described recent Israeli actions as a “serious crime,” in addition to the “crime” of approving construction of thousands of residential units in occupied East Jerusalem.
With regard to the rumored third intifada, Abed Rabbo said, “The Palestinian people don’t receive directives by remote control.” He accused what he called “Damascus forces” and the Al-Jazeera satellite network of “dancing on Palestinian blood” to serve external interests.
Abed Rabbo alleged that Israel had plans to entice the Palestinian people into the “battlefield” to separate them from the political arena and popular resistance. “The Palestinian people are aware of these plots, and can take their own decision,” he explained.
