Ramallah – Ma’an – Fatah’s Central Committee began discussions with party leader and President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday concerning the latest developments on the resumption of negotiations with Israel.
The meetings, according to sources within the committee, are due to end Monday evening, before discussing the Egyptian and Jordanian delegations’ visit to Washington, calling for further efforts on the Middle East peace process.
Committee members will remain by their stance of calling for a halt to settlements before returning to the negotiating table and are committed to signed agreements with the objective of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state, the party sources added.
Members further discussed recent Israeli comments, accusing the Palestinian Authority and Abbas of incitement. It is anticipated that the committee will issue a statement on Monday evening.
On Sunday, following a cabinet meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “It is not only missiles and rockets that endanger security and push peace further off. Words can also be dangerous. Sadly, there has been a retreat in this area in recent months, both within the Palestinian Authority and by its leaders.”
“These serious actions represent a harsh violation of the Palestinians' international obligation to prevent incitement. I say to the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority: Stop the incitement. This is not how peace is made,” a transcript quoted the Israeli leader as saying.
