Ramallah – Ma’an – Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad received the actors of the comedy series Homeland on a Thread (Watan Ala Watar) in his office on Tuesday, and praised what he called a "meaningful television achievement."

The Ramadan soap opera, played every night of the holy month of fasting, is broadcast on Palestine TV and has made a splash in the Palestinian and international arenas. The satirical comedy pokes fun at all levels of government, and holds no punches when it comes to the Israeli occupation or Palestinian customs.

International press on the short soap focused on the lack of censorship around the series. Government members seem to be anything but censors, however, with PLO member Yasser Abed Rabbo making a guest appearance as himself in an episode titled "Obama in Ramallah." Receiving the actors in his own Ramallah office, Fayyad told the crew he felt the show was especially popular because it deals with community issues and the ambitions of ordinary citizens.

Fayyad stressed the importance of artistic achievement at the meeting, and pointed out that the government pays attention to artistic endeavors. The Prime Minister indicated the government would provide all that is possible toward the development of similar projects, and called works of art like this an integral part in building an open society.
