Ramallah – Ma’an - After 37 rounds of talks Fatah leaders pegged 4 August as the date for the sixth Revolutionary Council meeting to be held in Bethlehem. It will be the first Fatah leadership meeting in twenty years.
The decision was made at the government headquarters in Ramallah on Wednesday, in a two-day long meeting that set out the final details for the conference.
There will be 1,550 active Fatah members attending the conference, and organizers asked Palestinian President and Fatah’s leader Mahmoud Abbas to ensure that members from abroad were included in the conference.
Those attending will include members of Fatah from Gaza, as organizers asserted their attendance would be essential.
The meeting will be held under the title: The Sixth General Conference: The Conference of Founder Yasser Arafat
The conference has been years in the planning stages, and there was a great deal of controversy over how many Fatah members would be permitted to participate. Membership is in the hundreds of thousands, and an argument between participation of the old guard and newer members was long-standing.
While the number of participants was set, and it is clear members from the West Bank, Gaza and the Diaspora will attend; it is not yet clear who the participants will be.
