The Palestinian people can resort to peaceful resistance against Israel's occupation, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday in Amman, Jordan.
Speaking before members of the Kuwaiti Journalists Association, Abbas said while Palestinians are unable to resist militarily against Israel's occupation, they can resort to peaceful resistance, the KUNA news agency said.
Abbas warned the Palestinians will not give up their cause, the report said.
The Palestinian president reportedly praised U.S. President Barack Obama for supporting the Palestinian cause and his insistence on implementing the so-called Road Map and Arab peace initiative.
Abbas told the news agency, only after Israel pulls out of the "Syrian Golan Heights," and the Shabaa Farms in Lebanon, and accepts Palestinian statehood, will Arabs and other Muslims normalize their ties with Israel.
Abbas also talked about relations with Kuwait, saying they are excellent and go back to the 1970s. He expressed regret for the Palestinian support of the invasion of Kuwait by executed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein in 1990, the report said. Abbas said he hopes members of the journalists group will visit the Palestinian territories "to take a close look at the suffering of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation," the report said.
