Palestinian medical workers say a teenager shot by Israeli troops in the West Bank village of Nilin last week has died of his wounds.

Youssef Amira, 18, had been attending the funeral of a Palestinian boy who had been killed by Israeli troops a day earlier when he was himself shot.

Medical workers say he was hit in the head by two rubber-coated steel rounds.

The incident happened when Israeli troops confronted angry mourners staging a demonstration.

On Sunday, Israel placed a border policeman under house arrest over his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Ahmed Musa the previous week, during a protest against the barrier Israel is building in the West Bank.

Daily demonstrations in Nilin frequently turn into clashes between residents and Israeli soldiers and border police, who usually use tear gas and rubber-coated bullets rather than live ammunition.

Israel says the half-built barrier, projected to stretch for 723km (454 miles) around and within the West Bank, is needed for security.

Palestinians say it is intended to grab large parts of the West Bank, which was occupied by Israel in the 1967 war.
